WE CAME, WE SAW, WE CONQUERED, AND NOW WE ARE GIVING BACK
As our 20-year high school reunion was upon us, the planning committee decided to take a different approach. Instead of planning and hosting the traditional hotel or bar gathering, we decided to take a different approach. We wanted to create an opportunity for past WSHS alumni to give back to future WSHS generations. Our vision and mission was simple, to leverage our success, our experiences, our connections and our need to give back to create the Viking Technology Initiative.
Why the Viking Technology Initiative?
When the class of 1998 graduated, the Internet was in its infancy. The tools that would shape the world had not been created. Fast forward to today – technology is moving at a speed of thought, and the need for future students to master these technologies is critical to their success as well as the impact they will make in their communities.
What is the Viking Technology Initiative?
The Viking Technology Initiative is a two-part project and community initiative.
Part One: WSHS Tech Refresh: With technology moving at a rapid speed, the need for Woodbridge High School to provide the latest technology to current and future students is essential for post high school education and for exposing students to a variety of career paths. The Tech Refresh Initiative will focus on corporate and private fundraising to purchase new computers, new software, and technology tools.
Part Two: The Viking Tech Center: The vision for the Viking Tech Center is to create a place where students can learn about future and emerging technologies that will shape the world. The mission of the Viking Tech Center is to create a place where students can learn in a safe and supportive environment. The curriculum will leverage past WSHS Alumni experience and expertise in a number of technological fields and various industries.
When is the official Launch of the Viking Technology Initiative?
The official launch for the Viking Technology Initiative will take place in conjunction with WSHS Class of 98 Reunion Weekend. Fundraising efforts will begin during the summer/fall of 2018. The goal will be to hit our fundraising goals by December 31, 2018. Our goal is to break ground on the Viking Tech Center in the spring/summer of 2019.
